John Carter Hamsley, 70, died on Sunday, Sept. 4, 2005, in a local hospital.
Mr. Hamsley retired from Georgia Natural Gas after 35 years of service. He was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Crawfish Springs Masonic Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Carter Hamsley, and a brother, Thomas Gilbert Hamsley.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Betty Lou Snider Hamsley, of Chickamauga; mother, Azalea Thurman Hamsley, of Pulaski, TN; two sons and daughter-in-law, Larry and Barbara Hamsley, of Chattanooga, Timmothy Hamsley, of Kensington, GA; sister, Doretha Turner, of Frankewing, TN; three grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Wednesday, at 11 a.m. in the J. Avery Bryan Chapel of Wilson Funeral Homes with the Rev. Alan Goolsby officiating.
The family will receive friends after 5 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
A graveside service will be Thursday, at 2:30 p.m. CDT in New Bethel Church Cemetery in Lafayette, TN.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hutcheson Hospice at 100 Mitchell Road, Fort Oglethorpe, GA 30742, and the American Heart Association.
