The Montreat men downed Union 74-63 in Appalachian Athletic Conference action on Tuesday night.

UVA-Wise won over Virginia Intermont 84-69. Bluefield beat King 73-51.

In other AAC women's action, King beat Bluefield 93-59 and UVA-Wise defeated Virginia Intermont 68-57 as Sarah Helton scored 26.

Also, Union College overcame a 16-point second-half deficit to post a 79-74 victory over visiting Montreat College.

Sophomore Allison Fowler (Morganfield, Ky.) led Union (6-11 overall, 3-6 AAC) with 29 points, while freshman Susanna Todd (Eubank, Ky.) recorded her first collegiate double-double with 23 points and 12 rebounds - both career highs.

Down by 12 at the half, Union quickly found itself trailing 50-34 as Montreat opened the period on a 10-6 stretch. Union roared back, using a 17-4 run to cut the margin to 54-51 with 12:55 left. Montreat regrouped and stretched its lead to 61-53 with 10:40 to play. Not to be detoured, Union went on an 11-2 run to claim a 64-63 lead at the 7:27 mark.

Amy Arnold completed a three-point play to help put Montreat up 67-64 with 6:52 on the clock. Union tied at 69 before taking a 72-69 lead off a Todd 3-pointer with 4:27 remaining. Montreat cut it to one but could not regain the lead as Union went on to take the 79-74 decision.

The win snaps a two-game losing streak and is Union's first conference victory in its last five tries.

The difference in the game came at the foul line as Union made 24 of 29 free throws (82.8 percent) with Montreat making just 8 of 16 (50 percent).

For Montreat (4-14 overall, 3-7 AAC), Jaime Gragg led the way with 29, while Arnold chipped in 11.

Union will play host to Alice Lloyd (Ky.) College in non-conference action on Thursday. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m.

In the Union-Montreat men's game, visiting Montreat jumped out early and never looked back as it handed No. 21 Union College its first home loss of the season.

Montreat (9-6 overall, 7-3 AAC) scored the game's first five points and steadily built a 19-7 lead with 10:39 to go. Union cut the margin to five on a Kris Mills (Barbourville, Ky.) 3-pointer with 7:27 left, but Montreat took over and led by as many as 20 en route to a 46-29 halftime cushion.

The margin hovered around 20 for much of the second half, but sophomore Jerrod Gibbons (Monticello, Ky.) fueled a Union rally to pull Union within eight. Scoring nine straight points, Gibbons single-handedly cut the deficit to 63-55 with 4:28 to go. However, Union could not get any closer as Montreat held on for the 74-63 win.

A large reason for the 11-point decision was Montreat's dominance on the boards as it outrebounded Union 51-24. Tim Lewis led the visitors with 15 points and 14 points, while Noble Anthony chipped in 12 points and 13 rebounds. Aaron Collazo added 10 points.

Gibbons was the lone Union player in double figures as he scored a game-high 22 points. No one else had more than seven points.

Union (12-6 overall, 7-2 AAC) returns to action on Thursday to play host to Alice Lloyd (Ky.) College at 7:30 p.m.
