The Rev. Virgil Nix, 67, died on Wednesday, April 12, 2006, in a local hospital.
He was a well-known Baptist minister for over 40 years and was a member of New Liberty Baptist Church.
His parents, Bennie Nix and Artie Nix Smallwood, preceded him in death as well as one brother, Jerry Patrick Nix.
He is survived by his wife, Ell Jeana Sledge Nix, of Cleveland; three children, Helen Epperson and her fiancée, Andy Semak, both of Cleveland, Virgil Wesley Nix and his wife, Janet L., of Sweetwater, TN, and Mike Nix, of Cleveland; five grandchildren, Sherry Roe and husband, Mitchell, Deanna Bain and husband, Rob, Dustin Nix, Nathan Nix and Bradley Nix, all of Cleveland; four great-grandchildren, Sarah Roe and Colton Roe, both of Cleveland, Suzanne Dixon and Jeremy Green, both of Sweetwater; one sister, Janet Isbill, of Sweetwater; brothers, Robert Nix, Randall Smallwood, Richard Smallwood, Donald Smallwood, Tommy Smallwood, all of Sweetwater, Raymond Smallwood of Michigan; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with the Rev. Joe Hicks, the Rev. Darren Fansler and the Rev. James Vaughn officiating. Interment will follow in Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery with Dale Wilkins, DeWayne Bullard, David Bullard, Kenny Leonard, Scottie Leonard and Danny Works serving as pallbearers.
His family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
