Laura Mae Magness, 86, of Signal Mountain, died on July 21, 2007. She was born January 4, 1921 in McCaysville, Ga.
During the early post war years, she supported her husband, an executive with Iranian Oil Exportation and Production Company. With her gracious style and organizational skills she hosted numerous functions for world leaders in the Middle East.
She was an avid golfer and won many tournaments including the Irish Seniors International in May, 1981 and was one of the few who got a hole-in-one at Big Canoe Golf Course in Jasper, Ga.
From a very young age she was an excellent swimmer and diver. At eleven years old she received an award from the Girl Scouts for saving the life of her friend's father who was in danger of drowning.
She also enjoyed gardening, nature and social functions. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, William Howard Magness.
She is survived by her sister, Venita Allen of Lake San Marcos, Ca.; her daughters, Maraya Barbara Lee Magness of Signal Mountain and Elizabeth Rene Davis of Waynesville, N.C.; her sons, William Howard Magness of Stevensville, Md. and Robert Bidez Magness of Dunedin, Fl.; her seven grandchildren, Kristina Ebbert, Dominique Hash, Tad Davis, William Magness, Heather Magness, Jacquelyn Magness and Rose Magness; her five great-grandchildren, Corey Hash, Mitch Ebbert, Savanna Hash, Reed Ebbert and Cassidy Hash.
Memorial services will be held at Alexian Brothers Main Chapel on Signal Mountain at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, followed by a reception at the Town Hall in the main bulding.
