Scott Koskoski Named Assistant UTC Athletic Director For Development

  • Thursday, January 10, 2008

Scott Koskoski has accepted the position of assistant athletics director for development at UTC, Director of Athletics Rick Hart announced Thursday.

Koskoski, who comes to Chattanooga from James Madison University, will be responsible for the fund-raising arm of the Athletics Department and will work on resource and relationship development.

“We must have a strong athletics fundraising program at UTC in order to secure the resources needed to accomplish our mission,” Hart said. “Scott possesses the characteristics we were looking for and is ready to lead those efforts on behalf of our student-athletes, coaches and administration.

“He has direct experience in athletics fundraising and brings a plethora of expertise and ideas which will enhance our full array of development initiatives. Scott likes people, and his skills will be an asset as we set out to invite the friends of the university to develop a relationship with UTC athletics and invest in the betterment of our student-athletes.”

Koskoski served as director of the JMU Duke Club for one year before being promoted in April 2007 to assistant athletics director for the Duke Club and Marketing. While at JMU, he coordinated and planned all Duke Club activities in support of generating all Athletics giving. He administered the Duke Club Board of Directors, managed all affiliate fundraising and volunteer groups, directed all donor relations and special events and planned and developed all marketing, promotions and sales initiatives, goals and objectives for the advancement of the athletics programs.

In 2007, he successfully increased athletics giving to 37 percent above the University’s budgeted goal and 21 percent above the previous year’s then-record total. On the marketing side, Koskoski’s staff produced a record amount of cash and corporate partnerships in 2007.

Prior to his arrival at James Madison, Koskoski worked as the assistant athletics director for marketing at Niagara University from June 2005 to July 2006. He spent three years at Washington and Jefferson University, serving as associate director of athletics for development, associate director of annual giving and director of Student Life.

His career in athletics administration began in June 2000 when he served as assistant sports marketing and information director at Robert Morris University.

“The people, the tradition, the hunger to be the very best; everything that we need to be successful is here,” Koskoski said. “And it’s only going to get better. Chattanooga athletics is poised for a dramatic rise to the top under Rick Hart, and I am honored to join the UTC family. I'm looking forward to developing relationships with our alumni, fans and friends, and inspiring investment in our student-athletes so they can succeed. Melissa and I are proud to be Mocs.”

Koskoski is a 2000 graduate of Mercyhurst College in Erie, Pa., with a degree in communications. He was the winner of the inaugural Alumni Spirit Award as a senior. He earned his master’s degree and MBA in Sport Management in 2002 from Robert Morris.

A native of Fairview, Pa., Koskoski is married to the former Melissa Kimutis of Washington, Pa.

Koskosky’s arrival is the latest in a series of recent athletics department administrative changes. Andrew Horton was promoted to assistant athletics director for external affairs, Owen Seaton was promoted to director of creative services, Jim Horten was named assistant sports information director and Brian DeWine was named director of ticket sales.
