Smith, Mary Frances Willis

Mary Frances Willis Smith, 89, died on Saturday morning, November 1, 2008, at Blount Memorial Hospital in Maryville, Tennessee, following a short illness.

She and her husband of 67 years, Lucian Smith, were long time members of South Seminole Baptist Church in East Ridge, Tn.

Mary was born in Hugo, Ok., and graduated from Ardmore High School in 1937. She married Lucian in 1940 and they lived in Poteau, Ok., where he taught school. During WWII they both worked at the Sunflower Ordnance Plant in Lawrence, Ks.

After the war they moved with their two boys to Johnson City, Tn., and then to East Ridge in 1953. Mary was an active flower gardener and an accomplished artist. She and her husband enjoyed traveling around to various craft shows showing and selling her paintings from their RV.
Upon his retirement, they traveled extensively in their RV over much of the U.S.

Mary was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Joe Ben and Ann Smith of Greenback, Tn.; grandchildren, Karen Sutton and Kim Livingood of Signal Mountain, Amy Wiesner of Asheville, N.C., Brian Smith of Knoxville, Tn., Carrie Smith of San Francisco, Ca.; great-grandchildren, Will Sutton, Weston and Carter Livingood, Hazel and Ezekiel Wiesner; sister, Barbara Elliot of Plano, Tx.; and brother, Lew Willis of Durant, Ok.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lucian Durmont Smith and their son Ronald Durmont Smith.

Family and friends will be received at the Chattanooga Funeral Home East Chapel, located at the intersection of S. Moore Rd and I-24, from 10 a.m. to noon on Monday.

The service will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home, officiated by Rev. Ron Perry. Interment at the Lakewood Memorial Gardens will then follow the service.

As an option to flowers, contributions may be made to the South Seminole Baptist Church.
