John Harris, a McCallie senior from Charlotte, N.C., was named the 2008 recipient of the Walker Casey Award. The Walker Casey Award is considered one of the highest honors McCallie can bestow upon a member of the graduating class.
Among his many involvements at the school, Mr. Harris is a resident advisor in Maclellan dormitory and is a member of the senior leadership organization, Keo-Kio.
Named in memory of Walker Casey '47, the award is given to the senior who most profoundly exhibits the strong Christian beliefs and standards which were reflected in the life of Walker Casey as voted upon by current students and faculty.
Mr. Casey died of a brain tumor six weeks before he was to have graduated from McCallie. Keo-Kio held a special induction while he was in the hospital, inducting him by tapping the empty desk where he sat.
