CLEVELAND, Tenn. -- The Region 3-AAA boys golf tournament finally ended here Tuesday afternoon.
The tournament started on Monday in Crossville at the Bear Trace Cumberland Mountain Course.
Due to darkness, the final two spots in the state tournament could not be determined.
Consequently, Cleveland's Tyler Goza, Soddy-Daisy's Zach Hester and McMinn County's Ryne Thompson competed in a playoff for the final two spots here Tuesday at Chattata Valley Golf Course. The three golfers each shot 77 on Monday.
Goza and Thompson each birdied the first hole (par 5 No. 18) Tuesday for the two state-tournament berths. Soddy-Daisy's Hester had a par on the first playoff hole.
"It was unfortunate for Zach because he had a great season,'' Soddy-Daisy coach Mike Pala said. "He played No. 1 or No. 2 for us all season as a freshman. It was a heck of an effort.''
The Walker Valley boys teams also advanced to the state tournament, along with Cumberland County's Cody King and Cleveland's Tanner Garland.
