John Dillon Lynch Jr., 86, of Hixson, died on Wednesday, March 11, 2009 in a local hospital.

He was a native of Franklin County, Sherwood, Tn. He was a Navy veteran of World War II serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He was a graduate of the University of Chattanooga Class of 1949 and was retired from General Motors Acceptance Corporation.

He was an active member of Rivermont Presbyterian Church since 1960, where he had served as deacon and elder and recognized as elder emeritus in 2007.

Survivors are his wife of 58 years, Margaret B. Lynch; three daughters, Catherine L. (Dan) Bennett, Marsha L. (Lynn) Vandergriff, Janice L. (Bruce) Mercer; one son, John D. (Shara) Lynch III; three sisters, Thelma Lamb, Betty Sue Moore and Jean Abney; grandchildren, Jennifer (Andrew) Nix, Amanda Vandergriff, Christy Vandergriff and Carrie Lynch.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday at Chattanooga National Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Rivermont Presbyterian Church with Dr. Daniel N. Sansbury and Dr. Robert Watkin officiating.

The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. on Friday at the Rivermont Presbyterian Church Commons.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Good Samaritan Fund of Rivermont Presbyterian Church.
