Unum Group Monday announced that Richard P. McKenney will be appointed executive vice president and chief financial officer for the company, succeeding Robert C. Greving, who in February announced his intention to retire later this year.
Mr. McKenney joins Unum from Sun Life Financial Inc. where he served as executive vice president and chief financial officer of the company. He had previously served as senior vice president and chief financial officer of Genworth Financial, Inc., as well as in a number of financial and operationally-focused roles at its predecessor, GE Financial Assurance Holdings Inc. He began his career with General Electric Company in 1991 in its manufacturing management program.
“Rick brings to Unum substantial financial and operational experience, and he has a proven track record of success as a senior financial officer and leader,” said Thomas R. Watjen, president and chief executive officer. “I am confident he will fit in well with the culture we have established and will be a significant contributor to our company, senior leadership team and board of directors.”
Mr. Watjen added that, as previously announced, Mr. Greving will remain with the company for the next several months to ensure a smooth transition.
Mr. McKenney graduated summa cum laude from Tufts University with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
He will report to Mr. Watjen and will be based in Chattanooga.
