Ripple Theater will produce a Christmas production, Behold the Lamb of God- The True Tall Tale of the Coming of Christ. The words and music are by Christian music recording artist Andrew Peterson and adapted to the stage by Tenika Dye.
The performance dates will be Dec. 4-20. Rehearsals will begin in late September.
Auditions are set for Sunday, Aug. 29, at 3 p.m. with call backs later in the week. The cast will be made up of male and females who can sing, act/tell stories, and move. Various musicians are also wanted.
To audition email communications@rippletheater.com or call 475-5006 to sign up for an audition slot.
The audition requirements include:
A song, one minute or 16 bars. Bring an accompaniment track or sheet music. The song should be something the performer can do well and shows their range. They may choose something from the show.
A monologue, one minute contemporary monologue that is appropriate for the performer's age.
Storytelling, performers will be given a choice of Aesop's Fable, extremely short stories where there is a "moral to the story," at the audition. They will be given time to chose a fable and then tell it in their own words.
There will be a movement portion of the audition. The producers are not necessarily looking for dancers, just people comfortable in their skin and not afraid to use their body expressively. There will be some dance and movement in the show.
Behold the Lamb of God is the fifth album by American singer-songwriter Andrew Peterson, released in 2004. Each December, Mr. Peterson travels the country with fellow musician to present Behold the Lamb of God. The first half of the concert is spent storytelling songs with each guest artist on the tour. The second half of the concert is spent performing Mr. Peterson's Christmas album sequentially from beginning to end. The tour culminates in an annual performance in Nashville's Ryman Auditorium.
Guest artists that have participated in past shows include Nickel Creek, Ron Block, Garett Buell, Cason Cooley, Sara Groves, Andrew Gullahorn, Phil Keaggy, Alison Krauss, Phil Madeira, Sandra McCracken, Buddy Miller, Bebo Norman, Fernando Ortega, Andrew Osenga, Eric Peters, Pierce Pettis, Jill Phillips, Gabe Scott, Ben Shive, Derek Webb, and David Wilcox. Ripple Theater is taking Mr. Peterson's music and staging it as a theatrical piece. The show will be different than a regular play as it will be a story-theater performance where the story of the show is primarily told through the songs but it will be accentuated through storytelling, spoken word poetry, symbolism, and movement.
The producers are looking for people who sing well, are comfortable being themselves, and who can relate and connect to their fellow actors and the audience. There is no lead in the show so ensemble is crucial. The star is the story of the coming of Christ.
