Three Blind Wines Fundraiser For Cystic Fibrosis Is Oct. 28

  • Wednesday, October 20, 2010

Last year, Three Blind Wines combined fine food, “blind” wine tasting, door prizes and a silent auction. The event, which raised $10,000 toward Cystic Fibrosis research, will be back this October - with a few new twists.

The event is scheduled for Oct. 28, from 6-9 p.m. at Loose Cannon Art Gallery.

This year, guests will be asked to bring a “red, white and repeat” - a bottle of their favorite red wine, white wine and an additional bottle of either one.

The party has been extended into both rooms at loose Cannon Art Gallery, to accommodate the increased interest in the event.

“Last year we were at full capacity with a wonderful turnout,” said Valarie Swafford, event coordinator. “Based on the response we’ve seen so far, we expect to have 400 people there this year.”

MC-ing the event will be WDEF-News 12 Amy Katcher and her husband Mike Dunne. The CF cause hits close to home for this Chattanooga couple. Mike's cousin has lost two sons to CF and another son recently had a lung transplant due to the disease. For them, the event and the funds raised toward research and a cure have a personal importance.

At last year’s event, a local wine from North Georgia Winery was among the winners chosen in the group tasting.

“There were some very expensive bottles of wine in the competition, so it was interesting to see that a local wine could be a favorite,” Ms. Swafford notes.

This year there will be two ways to win a personal cache of wine,” Ms. Swafford adds. “The person who brings the top-voted wine will go home with at least 50 bottles. We’ll also be selling keys for a $20 donation to Cystic Fibrosis. If a guest purchases the key that opens a locked wine cellar, the guest can take home all of the bottles inside."

Every guest will receive an etched tasting glass and the chance to sample an array of appetizers from a variety of local eateries. So far, food donations include fine dishes from area restaurants and caterers.

“The most fantastic part is that all the funds raised from this event go toward a grass roots effort to research new treatment and a cure for Cystic Fibrosis," said Ms. Swafford. "Some of our event team members have children with CF, and this motivates us to work hard to raise money to fight this serious disease.

“In recent years we’ve seen great strides toward better medicines for CF patients and they are actually helping to extend lives. There is no better payoff than that for investing in a fun event.”

Tickets cost $50 for a team of two, and each team brings three bottles of wine – the red, white and repeat – which will be cloaked at the door for blind wine tasting. Individual tickets are also available. An individual pays $25 and also must bring a red, white and repeat.
