Sergeant Major Ronald Howie, of Chattanooga, died on Monday, Sept. 13, 2010, in a local hospital.
He retired from the United States Army after 26 years of service, including two tours of duty in Vietnam. He taught JROTC for 20 years at Red Bank High School. He was an active member of Love Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church where he served in many capacities.
Survivors include his wife, Katherine Howie; sons, Roderick (Cheryl) Bugg, of Dallas, Texas, Reginald Bugg, Jeffery Bugg, both of Chattanooga, Scott Rosen, of Knoxville and Paul Gardner, of Fort Oglethorpe; daughters, Donna Bugg, of Chattanooga, Paula Howie and Andrea Carter, both of Louisville, Ky.; 19 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brothers, Douglas (Pat) Howie, of Terrell, Texas, William Howie, of Raleigh, N.C., Sanford (Eileen) Howie, of Semi Valley, Ca., and Olin (Martha) Howie, of Chattanooga; sisters, Mildred (Curtis) Simpson, Faye Braswell, Canarie Parsons, all of Harrisburg, Pa., Kay (Arthur) Saxton and Valorie (Donnell) Lasley, both of Louisville, Ky.; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday at New City Fellowship Church with Pastor Gerald O'Guinn officiating. Burial will be at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
Visitation is from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 16, at Taylor Funeral Home.
