James Edward Finley, 64, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, died on Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at his home.
James was born September 22, 1947, in Talladega, Ala., to James Frank and Emma Stockdale Finley. He was a member of the class of 1965 of Riverside High School, a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Vietnam War.
He retired from BellSouth in 2002 as an electronic technician.
He was a member of Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as vice chairman of the deacon’s ministry, Sunday School superintendent and church clerk. He was also a member of the Mass Choir and Men’s Chorus.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Frank Finley.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Wise Finley; mother, Emma Stockdale Finely; son, James Micah (Stacey) Finley and granddaughter, Jillian Savannah Finley of Baltimore, Md.; sister, Alma Thompson; a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 1, at noon at Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Glenn P. Taylor officiating. Interment will be in National Cemetery.
The body will lie in state after noon on Monday, October 31, with the family receiving friends from 6–7 p.m. at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 622-9995.
