Review for Jeff Coffin and the Mu'tet:
Jeff Coffin is a three-time Grammy award winner and internationally recognized saxophonist, bandleader, composer and educator and has been traveling the globe since the late 20th Century. From 1997-2010, Mr. Coffin was a member of groundbreaking and genre-defying fusion group, Bela Fleck & the Flecktones. In mid 2008, while pulling double duty with the Flecktones later in the year, Jeff began touring with Dave Matthews Band after DMB founding saxophonist LeRoi Moore was injured, and officially joined the group in 2009 following LeRoi’s tragic passing.
The Mu’tet features an all-star group of musicians – Felix Pastorius (bassist player for the Grammy winning Yellowjackets and the son of bass legend Jaco Pastorius) on electric bass, Bill Fanning on trumpet/space trumpet, Derico Watson (Victor Wooten Band/George Duke/Larry Carlton) on drums, and Mu’tet veteran and New Orleans native, Chris Walters (JD Souther) on keys. The band is currently touring the US in support of their new 2-CD set Jeff Coffin & the Mu’tet LIVE! (Ear Up Records), having completed very successful tours in Brazil and Canada in 2011. The Mu’tet also has a new studio album due to be released later in 2012.
