Most Chattanoogans with University of Tennessee connections are familiar with the parking garage next to the University Center on the UT-Knoxville campus.

Demolition on it started last Saturday to make way for a new student union, the first phase of which will be built where the garage is.

Workers last week removed the garage's familiar money wall of ATMs along Phillip Fulmer Way in anticipation of the razing.

The parking garage, which opened in 1971, was also known for its terrace at the top, where people tailgated before UT football games and accessed the University Center.
