Lloyd Gene Cox, 77, of Soddy Daisy, died on Sunday, March 4, 2012.

He was formerly employed  with Combustion Engineering for 20 years; was former owner of Cherokee Motel; with the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department, Fugitive Division for 15 years; and numerous construction and development projects with his son. Gene was an avid deep sea fisherman.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Geneva Blair; stepfather, Fred Blair; father, Norman “Buck” West; grandparents, Ethel and James Horton.

Survivors include his loving wife of 59 years, Sue Burton Cox; children, Lloyd “Butch” Cox, Gay (Sam) Chauncey and Joy (Steve) Goins; grandchildren: Abby (Sam) Miller, Bryce (Amanda) Goins, Logan (April) Goins and Adam Chauncey; great-grandchildren, Sarah, Stephanie and Summer Miller and Ava Goins; sisters, Fay (Ron) Elkins and Rita (Glen) Barnes; numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Gene’s name to the Jordan Thomas Foundation, P.O. Box 22764, Chattanooga, Tn. 37422. Gene’s heartfelt wishes were to provide support to the foundation for prosthetic limbs for children.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, March 8, at Lane Funeral Home, Ashland Terrace.


Memorial services will be at 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 11, at Lane Funeral Home, Ashland Terrace.
