Ann Smith

Ann Windhorn Smith, 69, died on Thursday October 24, 2013 at her home on Signal Mountain after a courageous, but quiet battle with ovarian cancer.

Ann was born on Oct. 25, 1943 in Cincinnati, Ohio. She attended and received her degree from the University College of the University of Cincinnati where she met her husband, then a young law student, Carlos Smith.  They were married in 1965 and enjoyed a wonderful marriage of almost 50 years.

Ann was a member of Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church where she taught in the Sunday School program.  She was also active in many charitable, civic, community and educational organizations, among which was service on the Board of Trustees of The Bright School, Team Evaluation Center, and Northside Neighborhood House.  Hers was a life of service devoted to selflessly meeting the needs of others.

Ann loved cooking, gardening and spending time with her family, and especially with her five loving grandchildren.  She was also blessed with a treasured group of close personal friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William H. and Amanda W. Windhorn.

Ann is survived by her husband, Carlos C. Smith of Signal Mountain; a daughter, Cathy (Eric) Youngblood of Lookout Mountain, and a son, Mark (Lori) Smith of Signal Mountain. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Kahler and Ander Youngblood and Katy, Hunter and Ellie Smith.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 29, at Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church.  The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the service.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to all the many doctors, nurses and other caregivers who provided her with wonderful care, encouragement and support these past six and one-half years.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions may be made to a favorite charity or to Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church.

Arrangements are by Heritage Funeral Home, East Brainerd Road.
