BBS Girls Claim Tennis District Title

Three-time District 5 A-AA Champs

In boys and girls District 5 A-AA tennis finals Thursday, the Boyd-Buchanan girls defeated host Collegedale, 4-1, while the Collegedale boys leads the Bucs, 3-2, after singles and will play doubles on Friday at 3 p.m.

District 5 A-AA Girls

 Boyd-Buchanan 4, Collegedale Academy 1

Led by undefeated teammates Katie Delay and Shelby Brown (both 15-0), No.2 Boyd Buchanan defeated top-seeded and host Collegedale Academy, 4-1, Thursday to clinch the District 5-A/AA title.

The Bucs (15-1) will host District 6 champion Hixson Thursday May 9 at the Brainerd Courts for the Region 3 title.

“Having graduated our top three players from last year and to come to Collegedale and win the district for the third straight year is a great accomplishment for our players,” said Boyd-Buchanan first year coach Mikki Brown.

The two teams split matches during the season and Collegedale earned the top seed due to winning the second meeting.

Multi-Tasking: Boyd Buc’s Paige Zumbrun also plays soccer and is a cheerleader, while Delay has lettered in volleyball.

District 5 A-AA Boys

Collegedale 3, Boyd-Buchanan 2  (after singles - match not completed)

The defending district champion Collegedale Academy boys rallied from down 0-2 in singles to win the final three matches and head into doubles with a one point advantage.

Due to darkness Thursday night, the two doubles matches will be played Friday at 3 p.m.

at the CA courts.

The Bucs took a 2-0 lead on wins by Stephen Ingram and Grayson Hartness, but Collegedale then claimed wins at Nos. 1-2 and 5 (all were three sets) by Austin Lee, Victor Lee and Ivan Snyder, respectively, to lead 3-2. Snyder trailed 2-4 in the third set before winning the final four games.
