GIGTANK 2013’s Demo Day Features Real Businesses For A Connected City

  • Friday, August 2, 2013

GIGTANK 2013, hosted by The Company Lab culminates on Tuesday, at the Chattanooga Theatre Centre with GIGTANK Demo Day 2013, a, day-long event featuring GIGTANK’s seven startup teams.

Over the course of the summer, GIGTANK teams have conceptualized and built companies whose products and services are intended to change various aspects of everyday life. On Demo Day, they will showcase their products to hundreds of angel and venture capital investors, strategic partners and community leaders from across the nation.

“Demo Day is the perfect opportunity for GIGTANK teams to make it known to the world that they are here and open for business,” said GIGTANK Director Sheldon Grizzle. “These entrepreneurs have identified problems that need to be solved and have worked hard to create solutions to those problems. We are proud of how far they have come in such a short time and look forward to helping them attract capital and launch growing companies.”

Built on Chattanooga’s one-gigabit fiber infrastructure, GIGTANK’s startups span a range of highly relevant verticals – healthcare, manufacturing, retail and finance – that have direct and immediate applications in their respective markets. Upon completion of GIGTANK, the seven teams will compete for the opportunity to travel on a national roadshow highlighting the top startups from Tennessee’s leading accelerators.

In addition to GIGTANK pitches and presentations, Demo Day will feature an on-stage interview with Bob Metcalfe, inventor of Ethernet, and five of the winners from the Mozilla Ignite Challenge, a program to promote the development of high-bandwidth applications across the world. Demo Day also includes the premiere of Lucid Streaming, an experimental 3D arts performance piece developed by Chattanooga-based Engage 3D and local artist Tim Hinck.

While Demo Day is limited to an invitation-only audience, The fourth floor of the Chattanooga Public Library’s downtown branch will air a free, open-to-the-public live stream of the event.  A live stream also will be available online for personal viewing.

In connection with Demo Day, on the evening of Monday, representatives from the Thiel Fellowship program and Chattanooga’s Under 20 community will share their passions and expertise in a public presentation at the Chattanooga Theatre Centre. Chattanoogans are encouraged to attend the free event.
