Joseph Eugene Crane, 88, formerly of Chattanooga, died on Thursday,  January, 15, 2016 from a short battle with cancer. He was at the VA hospital at Murfreesboro, Tn.

 Gene was a Class of 1946 graduate of Red Bank High School. He was a three sports letterman in football, baseball and basketball. Several classmates and he joined the armed forces during World War II. Gene served in the Navy. Afterwards, Gene got degrees from University of Chattanooga and Southwestern Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. While in Chattanooga, Gene worked at the Orange Grove Center.

Gene was prceded in death by his grandparents, George "Messena" and Laura Bryson Crane (Summerville, Ga); Joseph and Hattie Hamill Free Crane (Chattanooga); parents, George Roy and Mary Lillian Free Crane (Red Bank); and wife, Drucilla Hall Crane (Chattanooga/Nashville).
 
Gene is survived by one son, Dale Eugene Crane, one daughter, Brenda Crane-Gentry of Nashville; one brother, Don (Jane) Crane of Chattanooga; grandchildren, Heather Gentry (Nashville), Jonathan and Seth Crane, of Kentucky and Erinn Crane (Chase) Badger of Athens, Al.; several nieces and a nephew in Chattanooga and Nashville; one great nephew in Ringgold.
 
Visitation will be on Tuesday, Jan. 19, from 4-8 p.m and the funeral will be at 11 a.m., and burial at 1 p.m. Central Standard Time. Interment will be at the National Cemetery in Nashville.
