Bill McKaig
William "Bill" Henry McKaig, Jr., of Chattanooga, died on October 2, 2016.
He was born in Rossville, but lived the majority of his life in Chattanooga. He graduated from Tyner High School in 1946. Bill joined the United States Army and after discharge went to work at Dupont. He married the love of his life, Doris, in 1950 at Silverdale Baptist Church where they served together for almost 60 years. After leaving Dupont in 1981, Bill never fully retired until 2011. You could always find him at the church, working on a project or helping someone in need. Bill was always ready to lend a helping hand and had a love for people. He was involved in the Men’s Sunday School class, served in a ministry in Puerto Rico and enjoyed time with the Silverdale Prime Timers.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris, his parents, William and Annie McKaig, and his brothers, Herschel, Harold and Reginald McKaig.
Bill is survived by his son, Dan (Lizette) McKaig, of Hendersonville, Tn., daughter, Wanda (Kevin) Casey, of Ooltewah, five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday, Oct. 6, at 10 a.m., in the Silverdale Baptist Church chapel with the Reverend Wade Casey, Reverend Bryan McKaig, and the Reverend Eddie Wilson officiating.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Oct. 5, from 4–8 p.m. at the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
Bill had arranged for his body to be donated to the UT School of Medicine for research.
