Special Event Street Closure For New Year's Eve

  • Tuesday, December 27, 2016

Dec. 31 - Karen Lawrence Run: Starting at 6 p.m. this Saturday, the northbound lanes of Broad Street will be closed from 4th Street  to 3rd Street, Walnut Street north of 3rd Street and westbound 3rd Street from Walnut to Broad will also be closed. In addition, the right lane on Frazier from Walnut Street Bridge to Tremont and Tremont from Frazier to the cul-de-sac will also be closed for this race.

All roads will be open by 9 p.m.

The Karen Lawrence Run has been held on New Year’s Eve in downtown Chattanooga since 1979.

The run is in memory of Karen Lawrence, who battled leukemia from nine to 11-years-old. She started the first race but she passed away three months later. This year, the race benefits children and their families in need at the Ronald McDonald House. Over 400 participants ran or walked in 2015 and helped raise $24,000.
