Dave Hooker Named New SportTalk Co-Host On WGOW

  • Monday, August 15, 2016

Dave Hooker has  been named as the new co-host of SportTalk on TalkRadio 102.3 WGOW FM, interim program director Bill Lockhart announced.

Hooker joins long-time SportTalk hosts Scott McMahen (Quake) and Joe Varner (Cowboy) on the long-running Sports show.

“It’s rare to find someone of Dave’s talent that perfectly meshes with the existing on-air chemistry of the show.  Tennessee and SEC athletics are key components of SportTalk and Dave will add a fresh new dimension a show that’s been an Afternoon Destination for Chattanooga listeners for more than 27 years, said Lockhart.   Dave’s knowledge, contacts, plus his radio, print, and digital experience will usher in a new era in Chattanooga radio.”

The SportTalk co-host position became open with the untimely passing of Gary Haskew (Doctor Basketball) July 4th.  “Dr. B was an Icon.  A Character with Character, Gary Haskew will never be replaced” said Lockhart. "Today WGOW honors the incredible legacy of Gary Haskew while looking to the future of SportTalk.   We feel Dave Hooker will cement the long term success of the show.”

Dave Hooker’s first day on air on SportTalk will be Monday, Aug. 29.

WGOW FM also airs Vol Network Programming including The Nation-Sundays at 6, Big Orange Hotline-Mondays at 8, Vol Network Notebook Weekdays at 4:20, and Tennessee Basketball.  Other Sports Programming includes Georgia Bulldog Football, Tennessee Titans Football, and the Coca Cola Red Zone. Other Cumulus Chattanooga stations include WSKZ KZ 106, 1079NashIcon, and NewsRadio 1150 WGOW AM.
