Three of America’s largest companies invested in Chattanooga youth by supporting the first annual Shoes for School.
Enterprise Rent-A-Car created Shoes for School, and partnered with the Urban League of Knoxville to host it for the last 14 years. Due to its success in Knoxville, Enterprise decided to expand its footprint by partnering with the Urban League of Greater Chattanooga to start the program in Chattanooga.
Approximately 262 Enterprise employees and business partners from Knoxville and the Greater Chattanooga Area personally donated more than $10,000 to the Chattanooga based inaugural back to school event.
On July 22, Enterprise employees presented a check in the amount of $2,500 from the company’s philanthropic arm, the Enterprise Holdings Foundation, to provide additional funding to the project.
As a result of the generous contributions received by the Enterprise Holdings Foundation, Enterprise employees and local businesses, nearly 500 students received a brand new pair of tennis shoes and school supplies at the first annual annual Shoes for School on Saturday, July 30, at Coolidge Park.
In addition to the donation received by Enterprise Rent-A- Car, the Urban League also received initial funding to launch the initiative from the Unum Foundation and $2,500 from State Farm Insurance. The funding received from State Farm was used to purchase new tennis shoes for children between the ages of 5-12 who were identified by 10 local nonprofit partner agencies and who registered for the event.
