The McCallie basketball school and instructional 3-on-3 league directed by Blue Tornado coach John Shulman is scheduled over the next four months at the private school on Dodds Avenue.
There is a $175 cost per semester (seven classes) and the start dates are Nov. 5, 12, 19 and 26 and December 3, 10 and 17. In the second semester, dates are January 7, 14, 21 and 28 and February 4, 11 and 18.
Every Sunday on the McCallie Wood Floor from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Learning is progressive and each week will be different and more advanced.
The camps are open to current first-through-sixth grade boys regardless of ability or prior experience.
Youngsters don’t have to be McCallie students to attend the basketball school. Campers will be challenged and encouraged with personal instruction as well as team concepts. By the end of camp, players know the art of basketball and the intricacies of strategy, according to the McCallie release.
Counselors are chosen from current and former McCallie basketball players. Campers in all sessions will receive a ball cap and camp T-shirt. The camp is divided into small groups with real game situations.
Areas to be stressed are shot development, dribbling, passing, rebounding, 1 on 1 defense, team defense, screening, using screens, fast breaks, position work, character development and sportsmanship.
