Cleveland To Designate Additional Section Of 15th Street As Billy Graham Avenue

  • Saturday, November 4, 2017

The city of Cleveland  will name an additional part of 15th Street Billy Graham Avenue on Tuesday, Mayor Tom Rowland said.

Three blocks of the same street were dedicated in the evangelist's name in Februrary 2014. His daughter Gigi Graham attended that dedication service.

It was noted that 15th Street runs thought the campus of Lee University and almost dead ends at Medlin Hall where Billy Graham lived while attending college there. It was then Bob Jones College.

Mayor Rowland asked the city council to approve  the naming of the extended portion of the street with the signs to be unveiled on Dr. Graham's birthday, which is Tuesday.

The brief ceremony will be skyped to the Graham home on Montreat in hopes Dr.Graham can view it. His daughter said family members should be available to view as well.

After the 2014 ceremony, Mayor Rowland received a hand-written note from Billy Graham, thanking the city for the honor.

Mayor Rowland and his wife Sandra have become friends of the Graham family.

Next Tuesday's ceremony will take place at Parker and 15th Street.
