Laura Hafacre
Laura Halfacre, 71, passed away on February 1, 2017 at her residence.
She was born on November 29, 1945, in Courtland, Al.
She was preceded in death by her parents Mary C. Goins and Woodie Thompson, Jr., and son Cornelius M. Halfacre, Sr.
Laura retired from Dixie Yarns after 32 years of dedicated service. She joined the Greater Tucker Baptist Church many years ago, under the leadership of Pastor E.P. Crutcher. Laura truly loved her church. She served and supported all ministries faithfully until her health declined.
She was a devoted member of the Sunday School Ministry, where she previously served as a Teacher and Sunday School Superintendent. She most recently served as a Girl Scout Leader for Troop #40260 where she enjoyed working with the children. Laura had a quiet loving spirit and she truly loved God. She faithfully brought her children and grandchildren with her to Sunday school and Church. Laura was very instrumental in leading them all to Christ!! Laura was also a very proud member of the Red Hat Society. She was grateful for the special bond and friendship they shared.
She leaves to cherish her memories two sons, Delano (Linda) Halfacre Jr., Portsmouth, VA, and Christopher (Alicia) Halfacre, Chattanooga; six sisters, Dorothy (George) Palmer, Linda Lindsey, Barbara Starr and Madoline Goines, all of Chattanooga; Shinester Banargent, Courtland, AL, and Lucy Young, Tanner, AL; five brothers, Luther (Gladys) Thompson, Jackson, MS, Bobby Goins, Samuel (Martha) Goins, Jr., Chattanooga, O’Neal (Lugertha) Houston, Decatur, AL, and Paul Mason, Courtland, AL; seven grandchildren, Justice Halfacre, Onterin Halfacre, Cornelius Halfacre, Jr., Cornelia Halfacre, Nyla Halfacre, Leilani Halfacre and Elijah Gollaher; a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends; one godchild, Corey Tazewell, Jr.
The funeral service will be held at noon at Greater Tucker Baptist Church on Friday, Feb. 10, 2017. Interment will be in Forest Hills Cemetery.
The body will lie in state after noon on Thursday, Feb. 9, and the family will receive friends from 6–8 p.m. at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 101 Dodds Ave., 622-9995.
