USDA Rural Development Chattanooga Area Director Lisa Hewitt-Cruz on Friday announced that Rural Development is currently accepting applications for Single Family Housing Repair Loans and Grants from very low income families for home repair loans.
“The loans and grants can help with removing health and safety hazards,” Ms.
Hewitt-Cruz said. “Examples include installing a new roof, HVAC, electrical upgrade, plumbing, wells, septic and handicap accessibility.”
Loans are available up to $20,000 at one percent fixed interest rate. Seniors age 62 or older who qualify for a loan may be eligible for a grant of up to $7,500. Program eligibility is based on household income and the property must be located in a rural community.
USDA Rural Development provides loans and grants to help expand economic opportunities and create jobs in rural areas. This assistance supports infrastructure improvements; business development; homeownership; community services such as schools, public safety and health care; and high-speed internet access in rural areas.
