Jonas Cord Shackleford, Jr. is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and attends the Hixson Ward at 3010 Hamill Road where he serves as a first assistant in the priests quorum. Recently he received the Eagle award from the Boy Scouts of America. The Eagle Scout is the highest advancement rank in Boy Scouting.

Like Latter-day Saints, Eagle Scouts promise to do their best each day, to make their influence count strongly for the better. “To this, they pledge their sacred honor.”

Jonas's Trail to Eagle exemplifies his pledge. In Cub Scout Pack 3266, Jonas advanced from Tiger Cub to Bobcat, Wolf, Bear, Webelos, and Arrow of Light. As a member of Boy Scout Troop 270 Hixson Ward, he achieved the rank of Scout, Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star, Life, and Eagle.

Jonas earned merit badges in Archery, Art. Athletics, Basketry, Camping, Canoeing, Citizenship in the Community, Citizenship in the Nation, Citizenship in the World, Climbing, Communications, Cooking, Emergency Preparedness, Environmental Science, Family Life, Fire Safety, First Aid, Fishing, Home Repairs, Leatherwork, Nature, Personal Fitness, Personal Management, Rifle Shooting, Robotics, Snow Sports, Sports, Swimming, and Wilderness Survival.

For his Eagle Scout Service Project, Jonas mobilized volunteers and devoted more than 250 hours of community service to clearing a trail and building a low ropes course at Hixson High School, which is used by the JROTC and others for team building purposes.

At Hixson High, Jonas was voted Mr. Hixson High School by the student body and Most Dependable by his senior class. He served as secretary for the Future Farmers of America, Hixson High School branch. At graduation, he was privileged to wear the cord of courage from Blood Assurance for giving “the gift of life through the selfless act of blood donations.” He finished fourth in the TSSAA state championships 132# weight class A/AA division and was voted most outstanding wrestler in the region.

Jonas is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jonas and Amanda Shackleford. His brothers, Jeremiah and Cole, are also Boy Scouts. At Jonas’ Eagle Scout Court of Honor, Cole Shackleford led the Pledge of Allegiance. Jeremiah Shackleford led the recitation of The Scout Oath and Law. Presentation of Colors was presented by the Hixson High School AFJROTC Color Guard.
