World War II Veteran Was Owner And President Of Midwest Marketing Network

Edmund Barys, 93, born November 13, 1923, of Hixson, Tennessee, formerly of Wilmette, Illinois, passed away on Sunday, September 17, 2017. 

 

He was born and raised in Chicago.He went to the University of Illinois for two years before he was drafted into the Army in 1943. He served overseas in Italy with the 10th Mountain Division in World War II. After the war, he decided to get into food sales and eventually launched Midwest Marketing Network as owner and president. 

 

 He was proud of his work with the City of Hope Medical Center in raising millions of dollars for medical research.  He was highly involved with his church, St. Joseph’s in Wilmette as president of the Holy Name Society, and in basketball and softball church league as an organizer.  He was very involved in the Knights of Columbus in the Ouilmette 922 council. He became a fourth degree knight.

He was one of the founding fathers and general chairman of the 4th of July Committee in Wilmette.

He moved to Hixson in April of 2016.

 

Edmund was preceded in death by his wife Betty of 49 years.

 

Survivors are his sons, Paul (Sarah) of Red Bank, Andrew (Nancy) of Skokie, Il.; four grandchildren, Maggie (Darrin), Jamie (Duncan), Ashley (Patrick) and Kyle; and one great-granddaughter, Emelyn.

 

The family would like to thank his caregivers and Avalon hospice for all their kind support and guidance for the past few months.
