It is with deep and heavy sadness that we announce the passing of Oscar Farmer, age 81, of Dalton, Georgia.

He was a faithful servant to his Lord Jesus Christ and was welcomed at the heavenly gates on Monday, September 4, 2017.

He was born Feb. 9, 1936 in Kimball, Tn., a son of the late John Lewis and Mattie Elizabeth Farmer, five sisters, four brothers, and three children. 

Oscar’s legacy will continue with his loving wife of 33 years, Rachel Farmer of the residence; daughter, LaSonda Farmer Hayes (Derick) of Dallas, Ga.; stepdaughter, Danyell Boyd (Charles) of Dalton; granddaughters, Heather Boyd, Charlesey Callahan (Michael), Bailey Falls, Briana and Kaela Hayes; grandson, Ian Falls; great-granddaughter, Letty Callahan; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. 

Service to celebrate the life of Oscar Farmer will be held Thursday, Sept. 7, at 11 a.m. from the Ponders Melrose Chapel with Reverend Gary Moore and Charles Boyd officiating.

Interment will follow in the Ponders Colonial Hills Memorial Park with Derrick Ramsey, Bobby Welch, Michael Callahan, James Chapman, Derick Hayes and Charles Boyd serving as pallbearers. Charles Ramsey will serve as a honorary pallbearer.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5-9  p.m. on Wednesday.
