Members of Second Missionary Baptist Church, 2305 E. Third St., will celebrate the third pastoral anniversary of the Rev. Dr. Ernest L. Reid, Jr. on Wednesday through Sunday, Oct. 17- 21.

The mid-week service on Wednesday, Oct. 17, will begin at 6 p.m. with fellowship dinner and inspirational words from the Rev.
Carlos Williams, pastor, Orchard Knob Baptist Church.  Two celebratory services are planned for 8 and 10:45 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 21.  Rev. Freeman Ray, pastor, Shiloh Baptist Church, Cleveland, will be the early service messenger.  At 10:45, Second welcomes the Rev. Dr. Bruce Alick, pastor-elect, Zion Baptist Church, Reading, Pa.

The theme for the celebration is "A Man Appointed by God to be His Messenger,"  using Jeremiah 3:15 as the background scripture.  Mr. Namon Derring, deacon, is the event chairperson.  The Chattanooga community is invited to share as Second joyfully honors Pastor and Mrs. Reid in their third year of inspirational, energetic and progressive ministry at Second through preaching, teaching, witnessing and planning.

Back in late September of 2007, a gutsy Oklahoma State football team had just won a wild 49-46 slugfest against previously unbeaten Texas Tech in Stillwater. In the loser’s locker room, this after OSU’s Zac Peterson drilled a 54-yard TD pass in the waning minute to come from behind, the soon-to-be legend Mike Leach tore his Red Raiders apart. I mean, the man with the lifelong obsession ... (click for more)
