Ice On The Landing Opens Nov. 16 In The Choo Choo Gardens

  • Thursday, October 25, 2018

Chattanooga Presents will partner with presenting sponsor Volkswagen Chattanooga to open the ice skating season at Ice on the Landing on Friday, Nov. 16, at the Choo Choo gardens. This 120’x40’ open-air skating rink offers the fun and nostalgia of outdoor ice skating surrounded by gas lanterns, fountains and holiday grandeur at the Southside’s iconic landmark, said officials.

The rink will open at 6 p.m. on Nov. 16 and will include a live performance by organist Buddy Shirk from 6-7 p.m., playing holiday music. Ice on the Landing will be open every day for a nine-week season, closing on Jan. 21.

Ticket pricing will remain at $10 for an adult ticket, and $8 for a child ticket (12 and under.) This includes skate rentals and a minimum two-hour skate session.

Weekly promotions will be offered throughout the season ranging from Family Night, Student Night, Charity Night, Pajama Night, Tacky Christmas Sweater Night and more.

Ice on the Landing was named “Best (Outdoor) Ice Rink in Tennessee” in 2018 by Step Outside magazine. Over 31,000 skaters enjoyed Chattanooga’s only open-air holiday ice rink over the nine-week 2017-2018 season.

The rink continues to be locally managed and operated through professional event producer, Chattanooga Presents. Carla Pritchard, Chattanooga Presents owner, said “We love being part of the entertainment district in the Southside, and it would be hard to imagine a more picture-perfect setting than the beautiful gardens in the Choo Choo. We are thrilled to be returning to this iconic landmark that offers so many amenities for our guests, such as convenient parking, shuttle services, indoor restrooms, area restaurants and a new holiday market.”

Rink-side vending will include hot chocolate, coffee, soft drinks and water, along with Nutella crepes and ham and cheese crepes from Adelle’s Creperie.

Birthday skating parties will continue to be offered, with pizza and cupcakes being served in Choo Choo’s side lobby. Season passes will be offered for $100, as well as gift cards for the rink. In addition, Ice on the Landing will offer a Basic Skills skating course each Saturday morning prior to opening hours. Returning this year, Ice on the Landing will be offering free hot chocolate to every skater who comes to skate in an Ice on the Landing T-shirt.

Ice on the Landing presented by Volkswagen Chattanooga is also made possible through sponsorships from Tennessee Valley Federal Credit Union, Children’s Hospital at Erlanger, Maven Group LLC, Real Estate Partners and Webb Family Orthodontics.
