The government is opposing a motion by attorneys for former Pilot Travel Centers president Mark Hazelwood to stay out of prison until after the Christmas holidays.
The government said Hazelwood remains a flight risk, while citing his "vast financial resources."
The response said none of the reasons cited by Hazelwood attorneys - the fact he is a strong Christian, the fact he has already paid a $750,000 fine, the fact he has caused no problems while on house arrest, and the fact that co-defendants Heather Jones and Scott Wombold get to report on Jan. 7.
Judge Curtis Collier earlier directed that Hazelwood report on Nov. 30, giving him time to spend the holidays with his family.
He was given a 12 and one-half year sentence for his part in a massive fraud against trucking companies, who were not given the full extent of promised rebates.
The government said Hazelwood avoided interest charges by paying off the fine quickly.
