Police Blotter: Nosy Neighbor Goes Through Mail, Looks In Window; Driver Naps At Speedway Pump

A resident of Brass Lantern Way said she she witnessed a neighbor trespass on her yard and move her garbage can as well as dig through her mail. An officer reviewed the camera footage and was able to confirm that the neighbor was on her property and did go through her mail as well as move her garbage can. Police also observed the man attempt to look through the window of her front door but it was covered up by blinds. Police also observed no trespassing signs throughout the property. The woman said this has been an ongoing issue with her neighbor.

Police were notified of a vehicle which had been sitting at pump one of Speedway on E. Third Street for over half a hour running with a person inside it. Police located and identified the driver, who said he had dozed off. Police said the man showed no signs of intoxication. He was checked for warrants and, with none located, he was free to go.

A man said he left his backpack lying on the ground next to his motorcycle in the back yard of a residence on Flynn Street. He said that sometime between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. someone came onto the property and stole the backpack and its contents. He said the backpack held his HP laptop computer, a pair of Barry's leather loafer shoes ($100), a Columbia rain jacket ($60), an American Eagle fabric jacket ($50) and the keys to his motorcycle and his Jeep Cherokee. He said it should cost about $100 each to replace the keys.

Police checked out a theft in the parking area of the Walmart, 501 Signal Mountain Road. An employee of Genoa Healthcare said while shopping in the store she had cash and the company credit card in a bank money bag. She said she had used cash to purchase two money orders - one for $1,000 and one for $377.39. She then placed the money orders in the bank money pouch with the credit card and continued to shop. After checking out and returning to her vehicle, she discovered she no longer had the money pouch containing the money orders and credit card. She then immediately returned to the store to check for the money pouch. When reviewing surveillance footage, police discovered the woman had dropped the money pouch in the parking area. At 10:06 a small maroon SUV driven by a white female was seen stopping in the parking area. The driver picked up the money pouch then departed the exit near the Murphy Oil.

A man parked his motorcycle in the parking garage at Erlanger Hospital. He parked on the lower first level, but thought he parked on the upper part. When he could not find his bike he called police. An officer checked the lower level and found his bike "right where he parked it."

A man said he pulled up to a pump on the lot of Circle K on Highway 153. He got out of his sister's 2006 Hyundai Sonata, while he left the engine running. When he came back out of the store, his sister's car was long gone.

A resident of Wheeler Avenue reported that his gray Chevrolet Avalanche was vandalized overnight. The vehicle was parked in the back of his residence and on the driver side door it was keyed "cheater." The resident believes that his ex-girlfriend may be the culprit.

Police said two black males carried out back to back shoplifting forays at Hamilton Place Mall. The manager at the DSW store said he observed the pair walk inside the business, then leave without buying anything. Two minutes later, they walked back inside the business. They went straight to one of the hallways, picked up two pair of shoes, and walked out of the business, crossing all points of sale, with no intention on paying for the merchandise. Police were able to link the two men to an incident at Old Navy just 10 minutes earlier. The manager said the pair walked around the store concealing merchandise underneath their pants. Both then walked out of the business without paying.

A man said he left the Mr. Zip Gas Station, then noticed he had left his black ZTE smart phone worth $125 on the cash register counter. Video showed a 5'6" white male with a thin build and black hair parted to the left wearing a blue Adidas wind breaker with white stripes on the arms as well as black Adidas jogging pants with white stripes down the legs with black tennis shoes with white laces. The white male paid for an item and then walked out of the gas station with the victim's cell phone. Police asked the gas station employees if they had ever seen the white male before, but no one had.

A woman traversing Brainerd Road said another driver attempted to throw a firecracker in her window while she was driving. The suspect vehicle was a lighter colored HHR driven by a black male or female with long dreads.

Management at the Family Dollar on South Willow Street said a black female wearing a black shirt, jean jacket, glasses and hair wrap walked out with a buggy loaded with two white garbage cans full of miscellaneous items estimated at worth $150. It is unknown the exact items taken from the store.
