Willie Lee Swafford
Willie Lee Swafford, 97, of Cleveland, Tennessee, passed away on November 9, 2018.
She was born on March 12, 1921 to the late W.O. and Flora Glenn Swafford. Willie was a lifelong resident of Cleveland and a lifetime member of Hopewell Baptist Church, where she became a Christian in 1947. Willie was very active in her church and served as a Sunday school teacher for over 50 years. She worked as a secretary for the National School of Business and retired from Farmers Union Mutual Fire Ins urance Company. Willie never had children of her own, but loved all of her nieces and nephews tremendously. She was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her mother and father, she was preceded in death by three brothers: Ellis Swafford (Evelyn), Vastal Swafford (Grace), and David Swafford (Martha); sister Elizabeth Vassey (J. Cecil).
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her nieces and nephews: James “Jim” Swafford (Frances), Janice Jenkins, Barbara Brinkley (Bob), Linda Turner, Marilyn Elkins (Ed III), Ricky Swafford (Jane), Karen Cordell (Ray), Debbie Epperson (Gary), Judy Walker (Bobby), and Renee Murphy. In addition to these, she leaves behind numerous great nieces, nephews, and extended family members and friends.
The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 13, at Hopewell Baptist Church at 188 Old Georgetown Road NW, Cleveland, Tn. 37312. A celebration of life service will follow the visitation on Tuesday at the church at 7 p.m. Interment will take place at Fort Hill Cemetery at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 14. Adam Epperson, Josh Epperson, Jonah Epperson, Brian Swafford, Ed Elkins IV, and Ricky Leven will serve as pallbears.
