Hugh Hale was awarded the 2018 Distinguished Alumnus Award for Lee University’s School of Business at a department breakfast during Lee’s Homecoming.

“Mr. Hale was selected for multiple reasons,” said Dr. Dewayne Thompson, dean of the School of Business. “He is one of those alums who has continued his involvement with the business program since he graduated.”

Originally from Atlanta, Mr. Hale graduated from Lee in 1983 and currently serves as the chief information officer for the State of Tennessee Division of TennCare. Prior to this, he served as CIO for Visiting Nurse Service of New York, the largest not-for-profit home and community-based health care organization in the country, according to Mr. Hale. He has also served in executive positions at IBM and BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee over the last 35 years.

Mr. Hale also chaired the Lee Business Advisory Council for many years. The BAC is a group of business leaders and educators that meet with Lee’s SOB to make suggestions ensuring that the school provides the training and preparation that students need in the initial stages of their professional careers.

“Mr. Hale has held senior level management positions for well over a decade, thus we believe he has the industry experience to provide needed guidance to our students,” said Dr. Thompson.

Mr. Hale and his wife, Laura, raised their four children in Cleveland, Tennessee, and currently reside in Nashville.
