Leon Northcut, 89, passed away on Friday, May 4, 2018, at home in Hixson following a brief illness.

Leon was born in Sewanee, Tn., to the late Clara and O.L. Northcut. He was a life-long resident of Tennessee. Leon was a graduate of Grundy County High School in Tracy City and Tennessee Technology University in 1950 with a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Arts. Leon met his wife, Barbara Reeves, at a New Year’s Eve party and were married in 1952 at Red Bank Church of Christ.

During college Leon worked with his Uncle Vernon making furniture in Virginia. Following graduation he worked with Southern Wood Preserving Company, Chattanooga Royal and Chattanooga Glass Company. He retired from Cannon Equipment.

Leon was a dedicated and long-time member of Red Bank Church of Christ where he served as Deacon and at the time of his death a member of the White Oak Church of Christ.

He had a passion for wood-working and model trains which he shared with his grandchildren. Leon loved bird watching, perfecting his pancakes and chocolate chip cookies, and mailing newsletter articles to his grandchildren. He loved teasing people – both those he knew and loved and those he just met.

He was the perfect gentlemen and a wonderful Christian husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.He leaves behind his wife of 65 years, Barbara Reeves Northcut; his three daughters Debbie Shepard (Jerry), Belinda Bryant (Gene), and Jacqueline Northcut; four grandchildren, Joshua Shepard (Brooke), Trevor Shepard (Melissa), Caleb Kitchings (Heather) and Marissa Barker (Vincent); seven great-grandchildren, Stella, Leon, Jackson, Porter, Winnie and Deacon Shepard, Samuel Barker and grand-dog, James Dean.

A memorial and graveside service for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 20, at 1 p.m. at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Minister Rick Owens officiating. The family will receive guests 1 hour prior to the memorial services.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to White Oak Church of Christ, 2229 Lyndon Ave., Chattanooga, Tn. 37415.

Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, Tn. 37343.
