Cleveland State Community College and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga signed an agreement that will allow for a smooth transition for students graduating from the community college to transfer seamlessly to the university to receive their bachelor’s degree.

The agreement allows students studying in the advanced technologies department at CSCC including Electrical Engineering Technology, Engineering Systems Technology, Electro-Mechanical Technology and Mechatronics Technology to transfer to UTC to receive their bachelor’s of applied science degree. The agreement covers all majors within the College of Engineering and Computer Science at UTC.

“We have had a long partnership with UTC,” said Dr. Bill Seymour, Cleveland State president.  “This agreement is going to make for some great pathways for students that are studying advanced technologies and mechatronics at CSCC. We believe very strongly in providing pathways, not just for our students, but making sure that our high school students are taking CTE or engineering classes, as well. These pathways will provide all kinds of opportunities for education, as well as their careers, an opportunity to come out of high school, get their associate degree and then transfer to UTC to get their bachelor’s degree.”

Dr. Steven Angle, UTC chancellor, said, “The Tennessee Promise in the state of Tennessee is an affordable path to a four year degree so students can seamlessly transfer from CSCC to UTC, and we can know the students before they are coming and can make sure they stay on the right track to graduate in four years.”

The agreement will also allow UTC students to use CSCC’s mechatronics lab while UTC develops theirs.

Dr. Daniel Pack, dean of College of Engineering and Computer Science at UTC, said, “We do a lot of things at the college, and I would say this is the kind of work that will leave a legacy for the years to come. This will effect hundreds of students, and I’m so glad we were able to be a part of that.”

“This will help that student body who may have the capability of leadership,” said Dr. Tim Wilson, Department chair, CSCC Advanced Technologies Department. “So, not only will they have the skill set, but they will also have the additional education which makes them the perfect liaison between upper management and the reliability team.”
