Lee University Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Professor of Music Dr. David Holsinger, will perform its second full concert of the semester on Tuesday, Nov. 27, at 7:30 p.m. in the Conn Center.

The concert will feature a wide variety of music and composers from a number of different nationalities. The evening’s musical celebration will begin with “Wedding Dance,” a lively hora from the Hassenah Symphonic Suite by Russian composer Jacques Press. Works by American composers Leonard Bernstein and Don Gillis will be joined by the music of Viennese composer, conductor, and violinist Joseph Hellmesberger and Spanish bandmaster Alfredo Javaloyes.

Wind Ensemble will also perform one of John Phillip Sousa’s earliest works that incorporates the hymn “In the Sweet By and By.” The evening will conclude with “Intrada 1631,” a 17th century hymn by Franciscan missionary Juan Bocanegra. The piece has been adapted and transcribed by London-based composer Stephen Montague. Originally commissioned for the finale of the 2003 Bath Abbey International Music Festival, the composition has only been released for the past several years on rental status from United Publisher of London.

The Lee University Wind Ensemble is a non-traveling ensemble that performs for special concerts on the Lee University campus throughout the year.

The concert is free, open to the public, and will be available for livestream viewing at https://livestream.com/leeu
