For the second straight game, Coach Marty Rowe was able to empty his bench as the Lee women’s basketball team breezed to an 82-30 victory over visiting Brescia University on Saturday afternoon in Walker Arena.
Fifteen Lady Flames played and 13 got into the scoring act as Lee shot 46 percent from the field and 37 percent from beyond the arc and improving their record to 3-1.
“We set several goals entering the game and were able to reach most of those,” said Coach Rowe as his team honored former coach Jack Souther on the special day.
“I told the girls what great memories we have of Coach Souther and how he loved all the athletic programs, especially women’s basketball.”
Three Lady Flames recorded double figures with Lindsey Roddy leading the way with 12 points. Nicky Widenski and Taylor Boggess followed with 10 points apiece. Roddy and Tori Lentz led the rebounding with six apiece. Abby Bertram tallied nine points and Camryn Grant and Halle Hughes recorded eight markers each.
“I wasn’t pleased with all the girls in our shoot-around this morning,” admitted Coach Rowe. “But Bertram and Boggess came out ready to play in the game and gave us the effort we were looking for. I was pleased to get all our players in the game. These girls work hard in every practice and deserve the opportunity to compete when the situation presents itself.” He also liked his team’s assists (20) to turnovers (13) ratio.
Lee dominated the rebounding percentages with 12 of the 15 players pulling the ball off the glass. Boggess had five boards to with her points and Bertram joined Grant with four apiece. Bertram and Kayla Tillie dished off four assists while Boggess added three.
The Brescia scoring was led by Catherine Dunn and Ashli Sheldon with seven markers apiece. The Lee defense held the Bearcats to only 24 percent shooting for the game and they only made 19 percent from beyond the arc.
The Lady Flames will hit the road for one more game before the Thanksgiving break. They will face Clark Atlanta on Tuesday evening at 7 p.m.
