U.S. Army Veteran Was Founder Of Rogers Steel Company

James M. Rogers, Jr., 95, of Chattanooga, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 17, 2018.

He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Jim graduated from City High School. He also served his country in the United States Army Air Corp where he was a second lieutenant. Jim worked as a radio engineer for WDEF, as a purchasing agent for TVA, and in 1974 he founded Rogers Steel Company, from humble beginnings in the basement of his home. The company continues to flourish today under the direction of his son, Tommy. Jim Continued to visit the office up until his passing. Jim was a past President of the Classic 150 Club, and he served as Grand Knight with the Knights of Columbus. Jim was an avid golfer and was a member of the Chattanooga Golf and Country Club and the Honors Course.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Rogers, parents, James Milford Rogers, Sr. and his wife Daisy, granddaughter, Carrie Daugherty, and great-granddaughter, Emily Ransom.

Left behind to cherish Jim’s memory are his children, Carol Daugherty, Randall M. Rogers, Cathy Phifer and her husband Tom, and Tommy Rogers and his wife Rhonda; grandchildren, Wendy (Jonathon) Ransom, Will (Emily) Daugherty and Patrick Daugherty, Kelly and Chad Rogers, Courtney, Brandon (Jennifer) Phifer, and Jenny (Stewart) Fogo, Mason (Karen) Rogers, Sarah and Matt Rogers; and great-grandchildren, Jon Pat, Max, and Molly Ransom, Ragan Rogers and Oliver Phifer.

A Celebration of Jim’s life will be held at the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church on Wednesday, Nov. 21, at 2 p.m. with Father Mike Nolan officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to service. He will be laid to rest with his wife, Helen in the Mount Olivet Cemetery.

The family wishes to give special thanks to all the caregivers at Home Comforts for all the love and companionship showed to our Dad, especially, Karl, Steve, Olan, and John.

And a special heartfelt thank you to his grandson Will.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made in Jim’s memory to Emily’s Power for a Cure, P.O. Box 1387, Hixson, Tn. 37343.
