Being Unsportsmanlike Is Intolerable - And Response (3)

Sunday, November 18, 2018

During the UT Vols vs. Missouri game Saturday UT's quarterback was seriously injured by Missouri linebacker Tavon Ross. Football is a rough sport and injuries frequently occur.

Being unsportsmanlike is not tolerable. Travon Ross was ejected from the game and in an act of defiance or ego, he raised his arms and fists like he was something special as he left the field.

That type of arrogant behavior has no place in college football. In my opinion should end his collegiate career. If you get ejected from the game, take it like a man, not be an arrogant idiot.

I agree with Jack Varner about the hit on Jarrett Guarantano and the aftermath Saturday. Missouri is one of the dirtiest teams I have ever seen, but what should one expect from the University of BLM.

Mr. Jones,

Race was never a part of Mr. Varner’s opinion piece. There is no possible justification for you to insert race into the discussion, other than your own opinion.

The title of the piece applies to all across the spectrum. Making it about race only weakens, if not completely defeats, its strength.

Having attended Saturday’s game and after reading these comments, I don’t believe that calling out inappropriate behavior is the real issue here. Football is played by Type A, amped’ up college men playing a violent game in front of a passionate audience of raving fans. Emotions run high and out of control.

In my opinion, Missouri’s Tavon Ross should have left the game with more class and dignity. This much is clear.

But here’s what bothered me about Saturday’s game.

The “Volunteer Faithful” left, en masse, in the third quarter. Saturday was The Vols' Senior Day and the fans could and should have stayed to support the seniors. There were also two, 5 star recruits attending the game. These recruitsgot to watch as 10,000+ gave up and walked out on their team. Why make recruiting for the Vols even more difficult that it already is? Do you think these recruits have ever seen scores of their high school fans walk out of a game when their team was losing in the second half?

So if you want to talk about sending a message…here you go. “One arrogant player that got kicked out of a game vs. tens of thousands of fans who chose to turn their back on their team?”

Today Luka Hyde’s family received reimbursement for the outrageous discrimination this child suffered at Normal Park. The pain this family suffered is only one symptom of a bigger issue. The cost of this litigation (which included multiple pointless appeals by the Hamilton County Department of Education) came close to $1,000,000. That is $1,000,000 not going to the education ...
