Mayor Kevin Brooks Appointed To TACIR

  • Tuesday, November 20, 2018

Governor Bill Haslam has named Cleveland Mayor Kevin Brooks to the Tennessee Advisory Commission on Intergovernmental Relations.

TACIR was created to research federal, state and local government relations and make proposals for improvement directly to the Tennessee Legislature and General Assembly.

Governor Haslam stated in Mayor Brooks’ appointment letter to TACIR, “in the thorough, aggressive search for candidates, your individual characteristics and professional qualifications were exceptional among the number of nominees who expressed interest.  This appointment is effective immediately and runs through Nov. 6, 2022.”

Mayor Brooks said, “I am grateful to Governor Haslam for his trust placed in me and my abilities.  The TACIR appointment is a true honor and I look forward to serving with other city and county mayors, as well as my former colleagues from the Tennessee House and Senate.”

Cleveland Mayor Emeritus Tom Rowland served 22 years with great distinction on TACIR, having been first appointed in 1995 by then Governor Don Sundquist.

TACIR was created to monitor federal, state and local government relations and make recommendations to the legislature. The commission is comprised of representatives from the executive and legislative branches of state government, county and municipal governments and the public. It is a bipartisan forum for the discussion of intergovernmental issues and may initiate studies resulting in legislative proposals. The commission responds to requests for technical assistance from the General Assembly, state agencies, and local governments.
