Free Flue Shots Available Dec. 5

  • Wednesday, November 21, 2018

The Tennessee Department of Health is offering flu vaccines at no charge to the community during a special “FightFluTN” vaccination event Dec. 5.

"Getting a flu vaccine is the best way to protect yourself, your family and others from the flu and help keep our community healthy,” said Southeast Regional Director Glenn Czarnecki. ”The flu can make you very sick, keep you away from work, school and other activities, put you in the hospital or even take your life. We urge everyone in Tennessee who has not received a flu shot yet to get one now, and this event is a great time to do it.”

The following health departments will provide flu shots Dec. 5 at no cost to anyone who
wishes to receive one at:

Bledsoe County – Bledsoe County Rescue Squad – 8:30-11:30 a.m. Central
Bradley County – Cleveland Family YMCA – 9 a.m.-12 p.m. and 4-7 p.m. Eastern
Franklin County – Franklin County Health Department – 3:30-6:30 p.m. Central
Grundy County – Grundy County High School – 3:30-6:30 p.m. Central
Marion County – Marion County Health Department – 8:30-11:3 a.m. and 1-4 p.m.
Central
McMinn County – McMinn County Health Department – 9 a.m.-12 p.m. Eastern
Meigs County – Piggly Wiggly – 9 a.m.-12 p.m. Eastern
Polk County – Polk County Health Department (Benton) – 9 a.m.-12 p.m. Eastern; Senior
Center (Copper Hill) – 9 a.m.-12 p.m. Eastern
Rhea County – Deli-Mart – 8:30-11:3 a.m. Eastern
Sequatchie County – Sequatchie County High School – 3:45-6:45 p.m. Central

Seasonal influenza activity is spreading across Tennessee and is expected to continue for months, so it’s important for anyone over six months of age who hasn’t had a flu shot this flu season to get one now, said officials. The flu vaccine is especially important for infants, young children, pregnant women, adults over age 50 and those with chronic medical conditions. The flu shot remains the best protection against influenza. For more information about the flu and getting a flu vaccine, visit
