The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will broadcast its annual Christmas Devotional on Sunday, Dec. 2, at 8 p.m. The devotional, originating from the Conference Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, will be broadcast via satellite and online streaming to everyone throughout the world, including those in the greater Chattanooga area. Options for viewing the devotional live and free of charge are available at lds.org, BYUtv, YouTube, mobile app, and at local meetinghouses. Past Christmas devotionals may also be accessed online.
The First Presidency Christmas Devotional will feature Christmas music from the Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square, and inspiring messages about Jesus Christ. Speakers will be chosen from among the leaders of the Church. The First Presidency currently consists of President Russell M. Nelson, prophet – and his two counselors, Dallin H. Oaks and Henry B. Eyring. Under the direction of Jesus Christ, the Church is led by 15 apostles. Three function as the First Presidency, or highest governing body of the Church. The Quorum of the Twelve Apostles is the second-highest governing body of the Church.
Like all First Presidency Christmas Devotionals, messages and music will focus on Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God – that he was born, that he died, was buried, and rose again – that through His atoning blood, all mankind will be saved from physical death by His grace. Through faith in Jesus Christ and by obedience to the laws and ordinances of His gospel, we can also be saved from spiritual death.
Some 700 years before His birth, the prophet Isaiah proclaimed the coming of Jesus Christ. He proclaimed that His name shall be called “Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6). Isaiah also prophesied the Second Coming of Christ – that He will come again in great glory, to “wipe away tears from all faces” (Isaiah 25:8), and to rule as King of Kings and Lord of Lords, forever and ever (Isaiah 40:5). The prophet Nephi taught that there is “none other name given under heaven save it be Jesus Christ whereby man can be saved” (2 Nephi 25:20). So, come, let us adore Him.
