TDOT Contractor Completes 2nd Slope Stabilization Project On Signal Mountain Boulevard

  • Wednesday, November 28, 2018

TDOT contract crews from GeoStabilization International, LLC have completed a slope stabilization project on a section of U.S. 127 (Signal Mountain Boulevard) near log mile 16.05.  This is the second slope stabilization repair that TDOT has completed on U.S. 127 since late July 2018.  In addition to this site at log mile 16.05, crews successfully completed repairs to the slope near log mile 15.97 in October.

On Wednesday, TDOT maintenance crews will remove the concrete barrier rails near log mile 16.05 and replace them with barrels.  After the barrier rails are removed, TDOT crews will begin paving operations on the area of roadway behind the barrels.  The temporary traffic signals will remain in place to move traffic through the work zone on Wednesday.

On Thursday, at approximately 8:30 a.m., the temporary traffic signals will be removed and flaggers will assist with traffic until the paving work is fully completed.  Crews will pave and install pavement markings and guardrail.  This phase of work should be completed on or before Friday.

As soon as this work is complete, the roadway will be reopened to two lanes. The road will remain in this two-lane configuration until next spring.

Next spring GSI will repair a third site near log mile 16.14 that was targeted by TDOT geotechnical engineers as one that would benefit from the soil nail repair method that was used at both of the other locations.  In the meantime, TDOT maintenance crews will place pavement at the third site to seal any cracks that could cause problems during the winter, and they will continue to regularly monitor the area for any changes.
