Trump, Pence Urge Overflow Crowd At McKenzie Arena To Put Marsha Blackburn Into The Senate

  • Sunday, November 4, 2018

President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence on Sunday night exhorted an overflow crowd at McKenzie Arena to vote Marsha Blackburn into the U.S. Senate.

Vice President Pence spoke first, then Lee Greenwood sang his trademark "God Bless the USA" as President Trump strode to the podium.

Vice President Pence said, "Tennessee and America need Marsha Blackburn."

He said the Trump administration "has a record of two years of action, two years of results, and two years of promises made and kept."

As the crowd chanted "Build the Wall," he said work has started on the promised wall on the Southern border.

Vice President Pence said Blackburn opponent Phil Bredesen "would be one more vote for the liberal agenda."

He said he had been hearing about "a blue wave, but it is going to run into a red wall."

President Trump, speaking for 45 minutes, called it "one of the most important elections we have seen. It is right there with 2016."

He said, "It will decide whether we continue the great progress that has already been made" or have "liberal Democrats" block it.

He recited figures on record job growth and low unemployment, while saying the "tired" military is being rebuilt and veterans given better health care. He said military personnel got their biggest raise in 10 years.

President Trump said the stronger the U.S. military "the less likely we will have to use it."

He touted a new trade agreement with Mexico and Canada and said an imbalance with China trade is being corrected.

He also pointed to a major tax increase and said another tax reduction for the middle class is coming - unless, he said, Democrats block it.

"We've got to win Congress," he said.

President Trump said, "I think we're alright. We'll see."

During his address he introduced a number of members of Congress in attendance including Reps. Chuck Fleischmann and Scott DesJarlais as well as Senator David Perdue.

Those wanting to get tickets for the event began lining up Sunday morning. Those who waited until later in the afternoon could not get in.

Crowd was outside McKenzie Arena early
