Lance Richard Brock
Lance Richard Brock was sentenced on Monday to serve 30 months in federal prison on a gun charge.
Brock, 34, appeared before Judge Sandy Mattice.
On Jan. 15, Chattanooga Police responded to a report of suspicious behavior by the manager of the Red Roof Inn on Shallowford Road. Brock had been knocking on random hotel room doors. The hotel manager had asked him to leave, but he refused.
At the time of the officer’s arrival, Brock was in his vehicle on hotel grounds. The officer directed him to exit his car. When the officer patted down the defendant, a Rohm .22 caliber revolver was seized from his right jacket pocket.
Brock had earlier picked up several felony convictions, including aggravated assault in 2006, domestic aggravated assault and felony false reports in 2010.
Brock's attorney Erin Rust said he had a disturbing upbringing, including seeing his mother's boyfriend shoot his father.
Brock said he was sent to a school where, for a minor infraction, he was given 10 lashings with a bamboo cane and had to lie on a concrete floor for hours, then write a 5,000-word essay.
Prosecutor Steve Neff said Brock had a lengthy criminal record. He said for the protection of the public he should get the maximum amount in his sentencing record. Judge Mattice went with the minimum for the range, saying that should be enough time to get his attention.
The most he had served in jail previously was less than eight months.
